We got the confirmation yesterday that Rose's alleged father is her DNA match. We also found out that Rose will remain in her current foster home and not be placed with the dad. HHS is working through the paperwork now to approve the paternal grandmother who lives in another state. That process will take months.
Initially, while we were not surprised about the DNA results (the mother has known the fathers of the other 4 kids), it was fairly emotional. However, there was also a peace that came with this development. We believe that we are not to "stand down" at this point, and are to continue to "prepare the fields for rain" so to speak. There are many pieces of this situation that can still go in various directions that potentially lead to her back in our home permanently, and we feel a real peace that God is directing those steps. I, oddly enough, have had to smile as we have contemplated various parts of this as I have sat back and thought "I can't wait to see how you show your power and glory in the rest of this story." It is definitely NOT the response I was thinking I would have at this juncture. The past 5 weeks of healing has been painful...but good for my walk of faith and God is clearly present:) I must thank the many of you who have been praying without ceasing during this time because we definitely had times when we could not see past our grief to pray well in the past 5 weeks.
We have sought counsel if we have any grounds to seek legal recourse to fight for custody of Rose. We have peace that 3 different places have not advised that path. So, we wait out the process of the ICPC approval of the grandmother. We will do regular visits during that time to 1) see her as much as we can before she is moved out of state or 2) continue our bond with her so if the plan with the grandmother does not occur we can still be considered a permanency option for her. There are so many facets of this situation so we are praying for God's best for Rose.
Being raised by a competent grandmother would be a blessing for Rose. We are thankful that the grandmother is having to go through an approval process that would put our minds at ease for the type of home she would be going into. If any of our grandchildren were in the situation that Rose is in, my husband and I would move heaven and earth to have that child so we cannot be bitter about this development. We pray that if Rose ends up with the grandmother, that she would be competent, know Jesus, and would be willing to continue a relationship with us. If not, we pray Rose would end up with us:)
